Home Accents Today's Retail Stars list, in its 15th year, recognizes independent brick-and-mortar retailers of home accents – including furniture stores, home accessories boutique stores and interior design showrooms – that merchandise creatively, have a positive presence in their local communities and stand out from the competition.

Estimated 2018 total sales: $1 million – $2.9 million

Accent furniture specialist, founded in 2015. Home accents comprised 30% of 2018 total sales; accent furniture, 60%; other furniture, 10%. Attends Atlanta International Gift & Home Furnishings Market, High Point Market, NY Now, ICFF and Maison et Objet. Offers design services. Products are a curated assortment of antiques and new, some of which is sourced from local artists. Merchandises in a historical building in a setting designed to allow new memories to unfold for customers.

What sets you apart from others in your market?

"We have a curated assortment with a soulful mix of antique and new. We source products from local artist as well as design our own pottery in Morocco and around the world. We believe in creating an experience unlike any other shopping experience by being transparent in who, where and how we work.”

What is the best retail idea you have ever implemented that helped improve your sales/profits?

"Hiring storytellers (team members) who believe and share in the same vision. From day one it was important to think of ourselves as a brand and not just another home furnishing shop. We apply that filter to every decision we make, from graphic design, assortment, merchandising, affiliation. We want our clients to know that we care about the things they care about in regard to what’s in their home to climate control, homelessness etc.”
